Though the Classic City is renowned for its indie rock history, you couldn’t tell from the huge turnout and foundation-rattling celebration that was the eighth-annual Athens Hip-Hop Awards ceremony on Saturday at The Warehouse on East Broad Street.
From recording artists and promoters to hair stylists and entrepreneurs, the high-energy show was a reflection of Athens’ thriving and eclectic hip-hop scene.
A write-in ballot was posted on the Athens Hip-Hop Awards Facebook page on Jan. 23 and the final list of nominees was announced Feb. 18, once again giving the public a chance to vote for their favorites.
